Paul, I think you'll find Land Of The Dead wasn't scary either. Even Romero himself has said that his films give him the giggles (with the exception of the original Night Of The Living Dead, which has a bleak intensity that the sequels all lack). There's a lot of humour in those films that seems to go over many people's heads. I love them for the gore, sure, but also because they all have something fascinating to say about the human condition.
