Labour have got us into financial quagmire, yet they're going to borrow another £100bn? Mr Brown won't be conning me - Matthew, Islandmagee
Reclaim our multibillion-pound payment to the EU and give some back to the single person. I get £60 a week with no extras like OAPs get - Andy, Kinghorn
We need a decrease in the tax on fuel. This would help industry and cut the price of consumables - DN, Newcastle

A 2.5% VAT reduction won't do much. But cutting VAT by half might help a bit more - Aggy, Bognor
Brown and Darling ought to concentrate on bringing energy companies into line. It's alright for politicians on their salaries - John, Deganwy
A cut in VAT is only going to help those who intend - and can afford - to spend their money. It is a tax cut for the selective few - TG, Glossop

Never mind tax cuts, what about giving more money to pensioners and those on benefits too? - Rob, Leicester
I fully intend to hold on to my cash as it may be needed in the not to distant future - Jim, Hamilton
We need more than a VAT cut. I get £78 a week and out of that I pay for gas, electric, water and food - all of which has gone up - Caren, Manchester

Brown did not save for a rainy day and his stealth taxes made sure millions of other people couldn't either - Terry, Sutton-in-Ashfield
If a small cut in VAT really is the centrepiece of the package, people will wonder why that is all they can give back after taking so much in stealth taxes and taking the country to the verge of bankruptcy - John, Burton

Come on Gordon, VAT reductions won't help those in real need. Try no tax up to £13,000 and taking energy prices back to what they were three years ago - Dee, Dartford
I think a 2.5% reduction in VAT will be a big help, as long as greedy shop owners etc pass on the reduction and do not keep the savings in their pockets. If they do not pass on the reductions, I for one will never shop again - John, Didcot
Your say on job fears
I fear for my job at present. I know a lot of people have been laid off and I don't see a long-term answer - Graham, Newcastle
My salary as an OAP is £166 a week. That pays for everything - food, drink, house insurance, electricity, car insurance, tax, petrol and overseas holidays. It can be done, but it is difficult - Peter, Felixstowe
