2,000 job cuts 'unavoidable'

Cuts that could see more than 2,000 health and social service jobs go in Northern Ireland cannot be avoided, the health minister has said.

Michael McGimpsey said many losses could come from changes planned in the review of public administration.

He hoped the proposed cut of 700 nursing posts could be eased through planned reductions such as retirements.

FRIDAY The Alliance Party blamed First Minister Peter Robinson after ministers said up to 2,000 health and social service job cuts cannot be avoided.

Health minister Michael McGimpsey said many loses could come after a review of public administration.

"When will Peter Robinson and the DUP admit their budget is having a hugely negative impact?," Alliance said.
