Perry still on upgrade
Joe Perry shot up the rankings after a strong finish to last season and the signs are that he can continue on an upward curve this term.
The Cambridgeshire potter was unlucky to meet Ronnie O'Sullivan in the last 16 in both Belfast and Shanghai.
But he had gained easy wins over Jamie Cope and Matthew Stevens, as well as shining in the Premier League, and can beat Barry Hawkins at the Grand Prix.
Higgins is home banker
John Higgins has looked more focused on getting a fast start to this season after a disappointing time last term.
The Wishaw Wizard was on song when reaching the last four of the Northern Ireland Trophy and will also be keen to shine at the Grand Prix in Glasgow.
First-round opponent Anthony Hamilton lost his opening match in both Belfast and Shanghai and it is hard to see him giving Higgins a scare here.
